Two thoughts. 1) Vulnerability of *information* supply chain. Fauci seems to have trusted WHO who trusted China. Some have charged that China knew truth & actively misled. But maybe they were also as faked out by the disease as everyone else. Either way, need total rethink here.https://twitter.com/ATabarrok/status/1249525402080628736 …

I am shocked but this is an informative interview because Watters (!) pushes Fauci on difficult questions (and gets good answers). An interesting example also of an epidemiologist who made some mistakes by not understanding the public choice politics of the situation. https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1249372642454515712 …

There was no reason to think that China would be incentivized to disclose the full extent of their humanitarian crisis early on. I don't think for a moment that the US government did not have advisors that knew this.

There was a guy on Jan 15th who had a 2hr transfer in Wuhan when Wuhan had only 41 confirmed cases. He got infected. It was obvious then China was undercounting.https://www.reddit.com/r/China_Flu/comments/exwdsm/the_unluckiest_man_on_earth/ …

Because it was still an unknown disease at that time.

There was no humanitarian crisis. There was only the delay by Chinese local officials in dealing with an entirely new disease. China told WHO and the world abt it as early as 30 Dec.
