I think that Obama is genuinely not just opposed to Sanders' branding (i.e. that it might be harder for him to sell Sanders than Biden to the voters), but he feels that Sanders' operates from an incomplete model of the world; they must have tried to convince each other.

Yes, and Obama seems to think that these ideas would not work in the US. (I am not claiming that I know who is right, I just try to understand what's going on.)
