I don't think that we are often offered a choice between multiple complete ethical systems that are visible to us. Subjectively we explore a space in which we are confronted with uncertainty about the consequences of our actions and the significance of our preferences.

It is possible to lie and be truthful at the same time. It is possible to be ethical and unethical at the same time, depending on how you slice or aggregate time. Is consistency a requirement in the human program? It works sometimes, it doesn't, sometimes. It blows in the wind.
