I don't expect that the supply chain will topple in the next six months and we face national food shortages, but that may simply be a failure of my imagination of how things go wrong.

If regulatory issues ever caused a true food shortage in the US there would be large scale industrial civil disobedience to correct the shortage, at least in the short term. The US has some old line institutions that still work, like Walmart for example.
