The epidemiologists have long told us that a pandemic in our lifetime would be a matter of when, not if. Somehow I imagined it would mean 20% of people dying, and near total breakdown of civil order. I am grateful for how things are turning out.

Airborne AIDS would be worse. Fast spread, permanent infection, slow to fully manifest, very deadly.
