I believe unironically and without taking a side in the culture wars that the world would be a better place if more journalists would learn how to code.

Programmers learn to write about machines, and for machines that are not accepting any deviation from the truth. It is important to know this mode of relating to the machine of reality when you are writing about matters that affect life and death.

As a journalist who knows how to code, it's a nice thought. IMHO, the 2 main problems with journalism are 1. generalists writing carelessly about specialist topics and 2. sensationalism/click baiting. However, good journos have a nose for a story & do consult experts.

It would probably also be great if we had at least a few more journalists that are very wealthy and incorruptible by economic and status needs.

Journos are like teachers, they do not get into the field because they plan to make a lot of money

Yes. My sense is that even people like Yglesias are driven by intense anxiety and fear, which distorts their integrity.
