Normie covid twitter is currently busy discussing whether you have to continue taking ibuprofen or be concerned about if you want to be a good person. They are very excited, because the annointed experts are still flipping back and forth

You're normie Twitter for me. Reacting with fear and anger at the world is normal. Weirdos like me are reacting with creativity and curiosity. We're quite the freaks in modern society.

@Plinz this comment makes more explicit the dismissive undertone of some of your tweets, arbitrarily delineating some group of supposedly smarter (and at times, but not of your fault) holier-than-thou people from "normies". doesn't help engaging with anyone not already convinced.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

Dismissiveness is not strong enough to describe my current attitude towards people that think the response to a pandemic should depend on their ideological fashions.https://twitter.com/Plinz/status/1240345537154387968?s=20 …

Joscha Bach @PlinzNormie friends: I get it. You read Vox and Buzzfeed. You're stressed. You're scared. You instinctively protect your consensus reality. HOWEVER: This is an actual problem that requires constructive and rational effort. Techies called this. You didn't. Lets. Work. Together. https://twitter.com/AkashaThorne/status/1239968186826493953 …1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

If you so strongly disdain irrationality, start with the irrationality you can control: your dismissiveness, which (again) doesn't help to engage with people not already busy constructing their self-image around non-conformity. "normie" is the same level of tribalness as "boomer"

I cannot and do not want to control the way other people think, but I can actively select those I am engaging with. If you feel dismissed because I don’t ‘celebrate your identity’ as a person that gets their opinions via social osmosis, consider that I am ok with that.

I don't feel dismissed at all. (You seem quick to sort me into that "normie" category of yours..) The way you and the people you apparently choose to engage with are celebrating their own superiority as oh-so-unique thinkers is strikingly paradoxical and doesn't achieve anything.

Nothing that I write here has anything to do with you, because I do not know you as a person. I am only interacting with your statement. I am not sorting you anywhere, I am just giving you the opportunity to self-select

I stay. You seem to not want me to though, since my statement seemed to criticize your disdain of "normie"s. I clarify that I criticize it for its unfortunate effects, not its justifiable cause. Your suspicion that I look for "celebration of my identity" belies your sorting me...

Another attempt to explain my statement: As you desire "rational, constructive effort", I suggest you leave the self-congratulatory we're-so-unique-and-different echo chamber built around you (not necessarily *by* you) before criticizing other people's Vox/Buzzfeed echo chambers.

I see that you have good intentions and you are genuinely trying to help me to interact better with other people. I am sincerely thankful for your well-meaning attempt.
