I have just discovered (during homeschooling) that my children are being taught at school that infinitely many numbers exist. Where do I have to send my petitions against this devastating creationist pre-Hilbertian falsehood?

It sounds like meeting your kids in 10-20 years from now will be an extremely interesting, humbling and potentially scary experience ;-) Do not hope/fear the coming of an AGI, but Joscha's kids. (don't misunderstand: I mean this as a compliment)

Nah. My poor son was unable to figure out why he was unable to complete his assignment on hedgehogs. It took us an hour to figure out that it's because hedgehogs deserve to die because they try to employ a tank strategy instead of a runner strategy while the main enemy are cars

Wow that's newer math than when my 19 & 22 yr old were in public school.

For some reason the textbook author thought that it's very relevant how many spikes a hedgehog has, and how it's sad that they are going extinct, but they don't bother to explain how these two facts are related and why it's relevant to a 9yo.

Hmmm. I imagine the # of spikes vary, and the extinction issue is some subject other than math. Seems a lot to load onto the plate of a 9 yo.

It's hard to explain why the number of spikes matters. It's easy to see why it's relevant that animals go extinct because their environment favors different strategies. Also, why did Sega make Sonic so fast?

Yes, 9yo is writing a slightly surreal essay about them (and a couple hours ago he screamed in despair because we was asked to write a summary of the boring textbook article)
