I guess significantly is relative. They weren't precise in what they were communicating. Saying masks don't help at all in getting a viral infection, and only helped prevent the spread. When there is in fact some effect for both.
No, they were not vague. The article was written to suggest that here is a scientific consensus against wearing masks to reduce infections with COVID-19, and that is simply not true. They could have read up on it.
