The economy is not actually being "destroyed". All the physical capital is still there. Whereas 2 percent of people dying (or whatever the number would end up being) are actually dead forever.

Being in a coma is a lot more recoverable than being dead, especially a medically induced coma, if you want to use the biological analogy.

What things, in this situation? Mostly debts, but debts are just constructs, I don't see why they couldn't be delayed, given that everything else is slowing down with them.

Proposal: Officially freeze all clocks until this blows over so that nobody has to violate any contracts and the dates in the contracts still make sense afterwards

People don't get any long term harm from not breathing for a minute or so. Recoverable pause times for the economy should be a couple orders of magnitude longer.

stopping cellular processes (literally by freezing them) in order to buy time to treat an otherwise immediately terminal condition or traumatic injury is an active area of medical research with some documented successes. things disappear bc dying is also a process.

it's been known to occur naturally, by blind luck, in people rescued from cold wilderness conditions, even -- those case studies showed it's possible in principle and helped get the research off the ground
