Can we craft biologics that save as many lives faster than hardware?

It may make a much bigger impact in terms of saved lives if we would give hydroxychlorochine to health workers and at-risk populations now.

I was on Team Ventilator but is it obvious that ventilators help much once the patient’s condition is bad enough for a ventilator to be considered? Data I skimmed suggested quite high death rates among patients on ventilators

Plus as far as I can tell using a ventilator is requires skilled personnel. I'd be interested in an objective analysis of how many lives could be saved if someone gave us 1 million ventilators all of a sudden.

I don't think anyone expects containment to solve all our problems in the short-term, and although we cannot make enough ventilators, we will need as many as we can make.

We hope for the effect of remdesivir. This shortens the acute ARDS phase and hence the duration of mechanical ventilation. Hard data will be available in April.

'Hacking' by skilled medical personal the ventilators might help. But you'd need to spread the information and train people ASAP. That's what CDC/RKI/... are for AFAIK.https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/qjdm53/this-risky-hack-could-double-access-to-ventilators-as-coronavirus-peaks …
