*None* of the present candidates is fit to lead the country during an actual crisis. Most don’t even have integrity; all of them are unable to think systemically and deeply understand what we are up against. The preselection process is totally broken.

Sanders isn't perfect, but I think he has shown he's well suited to lead.

I don't understand why Sanders fails to see the strong negative connotations of the word 'socialism' in the minds of most Americans. This gives me some doubt in his judgement, even though I may share too many cultural defaults with him to sufficiently criticize his limitations.

I'm interested: What do you think of politicians like Merkel in this case? I'm not on par with her ideologically, but I'm impressed by the professional handling so far. May this just be (far) better communication, or a totally different style of government?

She understands her role more as a moderator than as decider, since correct decisions tend to be the result of negotiating between the current stakeholders. She may now be more in a situation where she has to make assessments herself. Her own assessments are not always perfect.

Most scientists are highly specialized experts for applying methods in a narrow domain. Few people combine devotion to serving a civilization, personal integrity, wisdom, systemic thinking, historical and political knowledge, economic understanding, social skills and culture.

I don’t have internals on how she is responding right now, and I don’t agree with how she dealt with the Greek crisis (she missed a chance to create fiscal union and instead started unraveling the EU), but I have generally come to respect her a great deal.

And yet I personally know 20 people that would do a great job as President, but none would ever consider elective politics at any level.

US governance is biased to a glacial process of apportionment of wealth with a high tolerance for corruption / anti-expertise. it is practically the opposite of what you need for this crisis.
