To be fair, masks are generally unavailable because no one here has emphasized their use before and thus manufacturing capacity is two orders of magnitude too low. If we had a culture where people typically wore them to avoid infecting others, things would be different.

No, I think that's a myth they invented to get people to not buy masks. It's not true at all. It's just a lie the told. Note that doctors wear those masks. I'm sick of going through this with people who cannot think for themselves.

The idea behind wearing masks is the same like vaccination: not protection yourself, but others. And to have more medical capacity for yourself in case of infection.
