Indeed, that is the greatest weakness of democracies: They cannot take decisions which can only be understood by people with above average IQ.

Not true. Democracy does not work via consensus, but by delegation. The problem is that we are delegating to people that are good at gaming the democratic processes, not to people who are invested in the fate of society.

Neither was ours, but at least they did the right thing. I never ever ever thought I’d be happy to live under an authoritarian-leaning government but I guess there always has to be a first time.

I don't feel too poorly governed in Germany right now... do you really feel all western democracies are suffering equally from incompetent leadership? Compared to to our favorite autocracies that is - not some hypothetical utopian technocracy one could dream up?
