I get this - “a death is a death” - seems close to peter singer’s idea that not trying to save lives of people far away is the same as not rescuing a drowning child near you when you have the chance

btw, the argument relates not just to distance in space but also in time: how can we rescue future children? If we want to live by such measures, we have to radically distance ourselves from experience, while somehow still managing to care
