I thought it might give them a sense of superiority to think that they know better than the masses, and they get to manifest this false superiority by ridiculing others.

I don't think so. I think that they believe that they are doing society a service by educating everyone on how to be a good person, and raise in status this way.

We believe in the same outcome, I think people are elevating themselves by putting down others, you believe they want to elevate everyone. Interesting.

Nah people want to be good. Putting others down bc they aren’t as good (for the sake of the world )is different than putting people down to make themself look better. (iow)people want to be good by telling others to be just as good for the sake of everybody .

People want to be good? I believe people always have a selfish motive, even when we do something totally selfless like give to the homeless, you're primarily doing it to make yourself feel good.
