If you google masks, you will stumble into dozens of news articles telling you that they are useless and you should not buy them. Is this a coordinated campaign to increase the probability that medical responders can stock up at Walmart, or just journalists copying each other?

Ah, you mean *journalists* doing the coordination, rather than it being pushed in a coordinated fashion. We're not seeing much coordination from the people on the government side...

I still think it's more a herd effect than conscious coordination. But my comment was referring to it being an agenda being pushed from the government side in coordinated fashion, which I see as implausible. They do have people capable of exploiting journalism herds, though.
