Why? And how is causation more than a mode of description whereby the world is modeled consisting of separable systems that change their state evolution across system boundaries?

Because the separate-from-surroundings living state is dependent on the surroundings from which it is separated by a spatial boundary. Life’s unnatural continuous renewal of its own gradient that fuels its separation is surroundings-dependent & fallible.
