Data from South Korea (most robust testing regime out there so far) suggests mortality rate may be as low as <1% (1766 cases, 13 deaths) Countries with higher reported mortality may be missing many untested asymptomatic carriers, therefore exaggerating the death rate

"if you look at the mortality rate of this disease outside of China, right now we're looking at around 0.5%" ~ Dr Redfield, CDC Director (watch from 1:50:31) cc:

Yes, right now. The world is still a month behind China.

Though still questions about testing in China - were they only testing those with symptoms? Also does that account for asymptomatic/v. mild cases who would just remain in quarantine and not call/go to a fever clinic for a test? Did they only test contacts if they showed symptoms?

Also from Italy and cruise ship, they're finding at least half are asymptomatic - no idea if they'll later develop symptoms, haven't seen much clear data on that (is that different from pre-symptomatic? I know there's cases of people who have never developed symptoms)
