That's not how organisms survived under uncertainty. We have bounded resources and cannot spend them to evaluate every possible alternative. We need quick opinions on everything, thus heuristics. We do it effortlessly.

Not that weird, in light of evolution of a complex social species. It's more about signaling loyalties. If you show confusion about not being good at sth insignificant, it's not a tragedy. If you waver in your loyalties, you might get ostracized. Applies to sports and politics

I find it still weird that most people don't understand an ethical stance as a commitment to getting things right, but as submission to the political fashions of their ingroup.

exploring other political ideologies in a deep way is discouraged because sometimes people like what they seehttps://twitter.com/antirobust/status/1140765275924512768 …

Needing to *fully* understand alternatives rules out ever having an opinion on anything. But I take the point! :D A favourite phrase: "I don't know. I haven't ever really thought about that."

That’s erroneous. Curious where that statement came from.

Individual accountability when it comes to ethics. Most people think they have an opinion but don’t have a clue as to why or how they came to that opinion besides repeating what was said. In my experience people get pissy if you ask them to reason, how they came to a conclusion.

Most people actually know shit about politics, and the main reason for that is that they know about politics almost exclusively from media, and if you have ever witnessed an important event in person and compared your impressions with the media reports, you might get the point.

Despite politics also being a topic of research and tons of theories out there, there is very little about the craftsmanship and know-how written down anywhere. Unless people have practiced it on a professional level, they know as much about it as about doing brain surgery.
