I am beginning to unfollow accounts that hit too close to home, not because they offend me but because they bind emotional energy and distort my perception of the world by focusing my attention on individual despicability that I cannot change.

You mean your own emotions are making you biased ? I notice this within myself as well. And don’t like it either. It sucks me into a view based on an existing pattern in my brain.

It seems like you hold an impossible value for being truly unbiased. In my opinion being fully unbiased leads to ineffectual paralysis as you collect more information to mitigate more biases. Avoiding things that don’t serve your goals as Joscha is doing here is super useful

You are right. It causes a lot of anxiety bc I feel I’m always wrong in one way or another.

I should listen to my gut feeling when it comes to morals . And stay focused on my personal interests more, I feel a lot more at peace. But again with everything that’s going on in the world I also feel guilty bc I’m privileged. I can ignore it all bc I’m not in a war zone.

If your morals compel you to act, do so and make the change you believe in. And also, self interest is ok.

Thanks for reminding me , I think a lot of people are selfish so I always try to be aware of my intentions and if those are not based on selfishness . I think I was more selfish as a teenager than I am now but I still think I can improve to be less selfish.

The self needs to be maintained in the interest of the greater whole.

Thank you
that was really helpful .1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes
The greater whole is not the group, unless the group is maximally whole and great. Eg. your ingroup is not great and American society is not whole.

You nailed it. I’m pretty much living as a recluse bc of it. I don’t fit in any group. I always think there is something wrong with me. I talk to much, as you probably have noticed .

No, you probably don't talk too much. But you are sharing your unfiltered thoughts. You are probably just a nerd (aspie). Did you look for your group at aspie events (hacker conferences, concerts of special music you like, rationalist meetups...)?
