It’s annoying how often I go looking for advice on “how to X” where X is a soft skill, and just get reiterations of “X is really important.” Yeah, I know, but you didn’t tell me anything new here.

A powerful example, for me: I went to a two-day seminar on public speaking. It was fine, but I learned little that was actionable which I didn't already know. But it still helped tremendously, because it made me believe much more strongly that speaking was something to improve

I often come away from such events disappointed, because just being immersed into an activity without being challenged or informed does not register as progress.

This is a fiction! Most people - including normies - have terrible soft skills. When you see an exception, it's because they have worked hard, or were trained in a dangerous environment that rewarded rapid learning.
