Free will is the ability to act on your decisions. If you understand your decisions better (because you understand preferences and expected outcomes), you gain more agency but have less freedom. Our culture associates free will with both agency and freedom, which is paradoxical.

If you make nice decisions but are compulsively unable to act on them, I don't think that qualifies as free will.
