If you define a universe by causal closure, there may be other universes. If the universe is created by an underlying process (that spawns systems with causally closed descriptions), the question of multiple universes may become relevant, even if they won't affect you.

The point is the (any) distinction is a matter for debate - conjecture and criticism, and ideally testing. And depending on the context in which the concept is used it may or may not matter where that distinction lay.
