Most any such system has a single knob you can turn to trade off Type 1 vs Type 2 errors. This case seems mainly one of not setting that knob well. AI isn't the problem here.

An AI without "understanding" and "common sense" shud not be used in ANY kind of automatic decision making based on human generated data. At best the AI can be used to provide consolidated inferences and let a human decide which inferences to consider and which not.

How much confusion could be avoided if people would not use "AI" as a synonym for "computer program"? This was not a problem of statistical methods, but the result of unethical business decisions by UIA management, despite internal warnings.
