For rhythm, there are better examples, but I think it could be improved by making it circular, so you can see the periodic nature.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gy2kyRrXm2g …

This one is of course brutally good, what you see is what you hear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqSvkNjWnnQ … It is not capturing what I hear though, it explores the edge of my ability to discover the 2d geometry in the geometry of the sound.

These are just the second and third levels of processing, no? The musical score is an abstract notation of level four. I am looking for level seven to ten.

To me, the elephant in the room is that without the sound, there is no music at all. There are some nice graphics that suggest the sensation of generic notes resonating, but otherwise, it just looks like a video game. The music is not in the information, it is in the sound.

I think that ultimately, a sensory modality is defined by its statistical structure. In the same way as people can experience visual qualia via echolocation, it should be possible to learn to experience sound through the retina.

I find that music tends to invoke emergent structure that is not 2d, or 1d+time. We are embedding the discovered relationships into a space with more dimensions than 2. Can we recreate that interpretation visually?

i agree. i has a dream once of a 3D holographic music system where the waveforms and notation could be manipulated in 3D air (in my dream it was dancers). it kind of looked like the iPad app Borderlands.
