Any sentient machine will be relevant if it adapts to the human civilization it is born into. Subsequently I doubt that the term "sweep away" is the right description.

Nobody is going to build a “sentient” machine. Not until we develop algorithms for emotional affect. It’s highly probable that “sentience” can’t exist absent affect. (I’ll be very pleased to be proven wrong in this, by the way). But you guys keep working on the dream.
