I think that they are actually paying for a few bits of valuable clickbait (a statement about a hypothetical relationship between sex and vegetarianism, grounded in a spurious survey on social media), while advertising the availability of such content on their platform
So are you saying Twitter is providing them with the names of accounts that click on the survey — which they can target later? I can’t see what else would be of commercial benefit. There’s no link from their profile page to any web site that tries to monetise people’s interest.
The impressions are free (we have now heard about Discovery Content), and twitter is going to shove this content at us until we provided enough engagement (200 people have confirmed that they like sex more than meat, 50 the opposite, 70 have followed, a meme may be born).
You must be looking at a different account; maybe they have multiple accounts in different regions. The @ Discovery _ AUS account has only 2 followers, and only 52 votes in the survey. Anyway, I’ll take your word for it that someone, somewhere might benefit somehow, eventually.
I don't presume to know that. I find it conceivable that someone runs a cheap pilot on clickbait, or that some bottom feeding tabloid has a fact checking rule.
