I think the confusion about the Hard Problem of Consciousness results from people's intuition that they live in the physical world, not in a software simulation. It is not hard to see how software can represent the illusion of being a person, and how software can move your body.

i'd say it's not a "confusion", it is widely the axiomatic given prerequesite that we live in a material world. sure, with software everything is possible. question may rather be, am i an avatar? or comes my consciousness solely from the main loop?

You don't live in a material world. You are part of a simulated world, created by a primate brain. In other words, you live in the dream of a monkey.

Ever had a dream so lucid, that you realized that the dreamer of the dream was dreaming his identity? I have. The most delicious mind fuckery of all time.

I was meditating over 5 hours a day for many months, living in a Buddhist monastery, in months long forest solitary retreats, and visiting other meditation centers. There were some months when "the dreamer and the dream are both dreampt" was more than words. Different world.
