It seems to be a bad idea to me to deliberately inflate the self esteem of children. If they are smart they notice the gaslighting, if they are not they develop impostor syndrome. Both undermines their ability to properly judge and regulate their relationship to the world.

yeah, just checking! I hear a lot of strongly held opinions here from people who don’t have direct experience of kids. Personally I find kids’ esteem can be fragile, and they can often be hard on themselves. Sometimes a boost and encouragement is needed.

Absolutely. Honest praise and sincere acceptance are important. I think we need to aim at giving them the frame to grow into the beings they want to be.
