At what point is a human (brain) sentient, do you imagine? Because I see it all as being levels of complexity, with each level adding more ability to be aware of the self as related to the rest of reality.

Have you ever been near to a new born baby and a few years on? Human consciousness grows over years and its freaking awesome to be witness to such a process. And I dont think its a binary off/on switch, but a long and labourous process to gain consciousness. Impossible /wo aid.
