Interesting analogy. Made all the more ironic by the fact that for the vast majority of people, their understanding of the concept of software is equally mythologized as is their concept of spirit. And the concept of spirit is about a billion orders of magnitude more complex.

I doubt that humans can understand and use concepts that are a billion orders of magnitude more complex than the concept of software.

But it does exist in the physical frame. it is encoded in the substrate of the thing. If you damage the right parts, it becomes defective, corrupted and ultimately non-functional.

If you look into the physical makeup of an organism or computer, you will not see any software. Software is a model over macro states, existing only in the mind of the observer.
