So. What are the core concerns with having Saudi Arabia fund American tech? Human rights? If we remove both Chinese and Saudi money I'm not sure much is left of Silicon Valley. And of the two: Saudis don't copy technology well.

The problem is that Saudi money is dumb money, and dumb money funds dumb projects, allocating prestige away from good projects. If there’s anything real left of Silicon Valley (I think there is), then this seems like a good way to bury it under a tide of well-funded hucksters.

Smart money tends to focus on parts of the market that require highly targeted efforts for getting disruptive results. Dumb money may go for massive efforts to profit from doing the obvious.
