Don't forget: "in just one hour, more than twice as many Americans die from tobacco smoke than everyone who died from vaping-associated lung injuries thus far." "e-cigarettes may be 95 per cent less harmful than smoking"https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/juul-ban-flavors-vaping-marijuana-legalize-a9161971.html …

I don't know the numbers, but wouldn't duration of use have something to do with the disparity? I imagine most deaths from tobacco come after 55+ years. How long have has vaping been a big thing? I think the numbers will rocket up.

The problem with smoking is not nicotine, but tar and particulate matter. Vaping eliminates that part.

Yeah, but are there - still to be identified - chemicals in the vapor that are just as severe? It seems to me (again, havnt looked into it), just from what I've heard on the periphery - if people are dying so early into the uptake, maybe it'll turn out it's even worse.

Yes, vaping gave rise to a black market for shady THC concoctions, which seems to be the culprit for the reported cases of lung injuries. That is not to say that vaping is generally harmless, but the risk seems to be substantially lower than smoking tobacco.
