Most training of philosophers goes into training to represent the ideas of other philosophers. But to do that well, you need to be at a level where you could have them yourself, and few philosophers are ever getting there.
If you look around your parenting self, you will notice that your experience is shared by mice, and by people that make really bad parents for all sorts of reasons. Finding yourself in a particular predicament does not mean that you become aware of a model two levels higher.

Perhaps a better illustration in this context: what it means to be a cow is understood much better by the farmer than by the cow. (If the cow knew, it would usually not play along.)
