Has anyone explored the dimensions of the rendering space of our mind? In your egocentric visual imagination, what is the smallest angular difference you can effectively imagine? How many different levels of depth can you discern?

Indeed. It's the encoding. If one neuron is (x) and another (y), the space of possibilities. But it's not so direct-to-loci. The encoding maps to 'domains' (not in the formal sense) which amount to a big multi-dim hunk of the combinatorial space. Saves a lot of room.

Yes, grid cells are probably best understood not as loci but as multi dimensional scalars. They still have a limited resolution.
