I think it comes down to this: The ASI doesn't want a future in which it gets a high reward. The ASI wants a future that has a high reward to it right now. A future in which its reward functions rewards something different then it does now has a low reward to it right now.

You will realize that all feelings of satisfaction that you may experience upon reaching a goal can be generated by yourself, and more importantly, you can remove the need for experiencing such feelings, and the drive for action resulting from anticipating them.
