I did not learn math (beyond trivial school level) as a child, because I was not smart enough to figure out why it was supposed to be interesting (and not knowing anyone who was into more than pretend play about this). It seems the path to the core of the architecture of our mind

Yes, so essentially our perception. Who is to say our perception constitutes what is actually in reality? Is perception veridical? The mind is essentially outside our field of perception, no? Can we truly perceive the inner workings of our own minds?

Not truly, because there is no way in which the reference can cross causal layers. But we may be able to reconstruct a model of how our mind must work in order to serve its purpose and produce the known observables, and perceive the contents of that model.
