Human intelligence evolved to convince others in the social group of the correctness of the individual’s perception of reality. That’s how intelligence is adaptive. It didn’t evolve to understand objective reality. Thus the behavior you describe.

I used to think that also but now I’m convinced it is their reality, they are certain their narrative is the truth. There is no doubt.Religiously believing in something doesn’t need a religion obviously.

Reality is too unbounded to comprehend without a perspective. It's the foundation on which reality is modeled. It always exists, it's just more obvious in journalism because our politics have become so divisive.
