Facebook has gotten the patent on shadow banning. Not that I believe that Twitter is going to pay license fees, there is too much prior work. Rather, it demonstrates flaws in the patent system, and that Facebook employs some people without a sense of shame...
It seems to me that societies can possibly fund the development of pharmaceuticals in ways that have fewer perverse incentives, but I am neither an expert on patent systems nor the pharma economy.

Me neither, but it doesn't take a lot of expertise to see that the system is broken. Particularly, as a person, registering a patent is so expensive that even attempting to do so takes lots of sacrifices.
