It's not that the impetus of perfecting the world will always lead to good results. But Western enlightenment (Aufklärung) tends to focus on fixing rationality, so we can change the world, whereas Eastern enlightenment (Erleuchtung) focuses on fixing the self, so we can adapt.

In my (admittedly limited) experience with Eastern philosophies, I've found them to be more focused around accepting the world and other people as they are - without trying to force change on them.
