Google is actively implementing algorithmic biases, and many users are upset when they become apparent.https://twitter.com/BrentScher/status/1138128535107899398 …

the day Google and the US president get along, we'll be f***ed 100%. And unless something is done to break monopolies and *force* transparency, this is bound to happen.

We have had centralized monopolies on media dissemination that were aligned with the interests of political admin for hundreds of years. The NYT and everyone else who asks to control Google are just trying to get back to normalcy, i.e. regulated public opinion.

There is a hypothesis in evolutionary biology which asserts that human intelligence did not evolve in order to better learn about reality, but rather as a social mechanism which allows the individual to better convince others as to their perception of reality.

Thus we all have this instinctual urge to use our intelligence to convince others as to the accuracy of our perceptions. So the people at Google are following in a proud and long human tradition - they probably are incapable of resisting these powerful instinctual compulsions.

This particular one is just an algorithm that tries to avoid suggestions that a court might consider slander. A result of court rulings that Google is liable for defamation in search suggestions.http://www.medialaws.eu/defamatory-suggestions-what-liability-for-search-engines/ …

Google has been filtering out autocomplete suggestions with negative sentiment for years.
