It's what we do to a cpu or graphics card when we want to have more performance from cheap hardware. It tends to take a toll and reduces reliability. In the brain, it happens when we use chemicals to drive it out of its normal specs and produce patterns of much higher complexity.

Some people are born with different amounts of chemicals in their brains. The question is ,is the norm constructed over time is politics applied biology ?

How many people are on meds for chemical disorders in their brain? I guess my point is schizophrenia is a disease of hallucinating but yet people with schizophrenia don’t see optical illusions. Like with the rotating mask .

Of course we need to look at numbers to come to an agreed norm. But the norm changes over time ... 10.000 years ago the norm was very very different . Why do we keep looking at the norm to find new answers ?
