I wonder if true empathy is the ability to let go of the ego ? @Plinz

Not sure if they are related. I think of empathy as a skill that lets us experientially recognize emotional states. It usually works only on people that are quite similar to ourselves, which leads to empathy gaps between neurotribes and political groups.

Is the categorisation into cognitive and affective empathy valid and useful?

I believe that this is the missing link. Neurotypicals can’t let go of the ego .. everyone else is autistic and get blamed that they can’t let go of their ego ... iow they lack empathy according to most researchers.

I think that both neurotypicals and high functioning autistic people can get whereever they need their minds to be, but they start from different priors and will have different trajectories. Autistic people just get a headstart because their priors are more obviously wrong.

Yes. We are born with innate priors that tell our brains how to shape our mental models. Innate priors for behavior are called instincts. When you have autism, your instincts are often wrong, i.e. acting on them may give you consistently worse results than you expect.

I don’t believe there is anything wrong with the innate instinct I believe it’s the fact that people don’t act or speak about how they really feel that’s wrong. Of course that’s confusing. I think this is the reason why animals are easier to read. What you see is what you get.

Nono, people tend to have instinct that tell them when not no act on or speak about their instincts as well. Instincts are not right or wrong, but they may be more or less useful priors.

I believe there is no thinking involved in innate instinct, you’er confusing instinct with intuition and intuition is connected to memory and how fast you recognize patterns so intuition is a form of judging/ with the ego while instinct has nothing to do with ego.

I believe instinct is something every life form has .. I believe intuition is based on reasoning and concluding by collected info or input . Most people can’t explain why they have a hunch about someone they just met . Most people (NT)can’t accept their intuition could be wrong
