When fully awake, I have aphantasia: I cannot experience my mental imagery, even though I know it is there and I can use it for drawing and design. When I begin to fall asleep, it often becomes visible, but not from the front (the direction of attention)—it slides in "sideways".

I can imagine all these things but I cannot experience my imagination, unless I am dreaming. I also suspect that when I look at an object with my eyes, I have less visual experience than many other people.
