One of the strongest pieces of evidence that our culture sucks at thinking or empathy is the abortion debate. Pro-choicers constantly characterize pro-lifers as "not actually caring about babies, but just want to control the bodies of women" which is one of the stupidest things

And prolifers constantly characterising prochoicers as baby murderers. I’m just sitting here thinking that the discussion shouldn’t be made about the other side

The thread seems to address misguided moral superiority more than moral equivalence. (One may safely assume that the majority of readers are on the pro choice side and are already familiar with the sense that calling them murderers is facetious.)

You’re right. The thing that rubs me the wrong way here is the assumption that pro-lifers truly see themselves as protectors, when my experience with them as people shows them foremost as callous life-wrecking control freaks and busybodies, here on the ground in Poland.

On the other hand, there’s this reactionary brand of “pro-choice” that yanks toward the total opposite, advocating for casual whim abortions, and I’m thinking those folk need a different fucking name altogether.

For me, the interesting part of Aella's insight is not that people with different moral sentiments than myself are misguided, no matter if they are to the left or right of me, but how the identification process itself works. She tries to guide you to the outside.
