I had a thought about youtube copyright claims and monetization. If your 10 minute video contains 30 seconds of copyrighted material(say a film clip), that's 5% of your video. So you should give up 5% of the revenue for that video.
How much of your video is determined by the people who wrote the encoder? How much should they get? Is it ever paid off or should anyone who ever did anything deserve eternal compensation?

The point I was trying to make is that losing all your revenue is bullshit when only 5% of your video contains other peoples video.
