This - the inversion of the original tweet - makes more sense. Humans have no purpose other than to follow words & concepts, & become productive thereby. They are defined in terms of words & concepts, not the other way round.

It’s a fun idea to be sure, but the Genesis of a word depends on patterns. We recognize patterns because they are useful - “food”, “money”, “car”. Words that aren’t pragmatically useful for most people, such as technical jargon, simply don’t exist in most minds.

This might apply to meme-complexes (ones with internal memes like "don't question this" and "let people know about this", and stick and carrot type memes). But individual words and concepts are just tools (labels). We don't say humans are the hammer's way to make more hammers ;)
