It seems that between 1920 and 1970, there was much more progress in physics, computer science, biology, psychiatry, psychology, aerospace and space engineering, education than there was in the last fifty years. Something broke.
You mean building a high speed train or testing a medication or redesigning a rear view mirror or getting tenure while pursuing a genuinely new idea in physics has become near impossibly hard because of low hanging fruits?

no. i say it only seems like progress has stalled bc even clever people cant realy process whats going on in many diffrent fields.

hypothesis: Moore's law/exponential growth applies to *cost* of technological progress, so repeating the wow factor takes double the cost. 2010's tech really is much more impressive than 70s tech tho. But your opening statement was about research not tech?
