Despite, or b/c of, 50+ yrs researching #AI & its potential, & perhaps b/c I am a war vet, your opinion here ignores mankind's usage of *nonhumans* for thou's of yrs as loyal, obedient and #SafetyFirst servants. I simply cannot accept your dystopian view.😔 #AIethicspic.twitter.com/cn2aTe71ab

Agency requires that you know what you are doing and why. I was not referring to humans using other species, but to humans being used by systems that have greater agency than us.

If I may, non humans are also "other species." Further, may I respectfully inquire "what systems have greater agency than humans? ...that know "why?"😔 BTW, I am not interested in discussing how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.😑 #AIethicspic.twitter.com/6CpZCmg9ki

Artificial Intelligence can be seen as the automation of decision making processes. Where AI outperforms humans, decisions will increasingly be made not by humans, and often from the vantage point of nonhuman interests (such as corporate and organizational agents).

An AI (not AGI) can make your decisions for you but only if you care to live an uncreative life where you only take the paths well trodden, because an AI cannot create new paths/goals via the creation of new knowledge

Alphazero created new knowledge on how to play Go.

Who would you differentiate between the knowledge created by the programmer in writing a goal into the algorithm and the 'knowledge' in the execution/method of the algorithm?

The programmer did not know in advance that AlphaGo/AlphaZero would discover that some assumptions of human Go play were wrong. The program did not just embody a new strategy of winning at Go, but discovered new knowledge about Go.

OK, is the reason behind that ability to find those assumptions still the creativity of the programmer and not really the program? Or is the program writing new code via new ideas about Go, on top of what the programmer created, if so what ideas?

Creativity is the bridging of discontinuities in a search space, often by constructing a new space. Machines will outperform humans at that soon.

I agree somewhat with that idea of creativity being about unification but we would first have to understand the epistemic space in our mind, which is some unknown program that creates new ideas. I do not see this happening soon as most AI researchers don't understand epistemologypic.twitter.com/wejq54MYAR

Most AI researchers will not be necessary for this. One might be enough
